Thoughts - Safaris and Why?

THOUGHTS

I thought a little introduction about myself was a good way to begin my first ever blog, but I promised myself not to make this section a Chuck Lorre Vanity Card rip-off where it's just my thoughts put on paper (figuratively of course - does anyone even use paper these days?) but upon a second reading of this I guess I failed.
Either way - here we go with my first ever blog post!

So how did it start?
I began my career in travel and tours about 6 and a half years ago primarily trying (yes I said trying, you pedantic ex colleagues and bosses!) to convince people to visit Southern Africa. In all honesty large parts of Southern Africa are exceptionally beautiful, and I do highly recommend it. You could spend several summers visiting different bits of Southern Africa and still have a whole lot left to see.

Why safaris and why now?
With the above being said Safaris really ought to be the crown jewel in family holidays. It's got adventure, it's got wildlife, it's got peace and serenity (seriously, as I write this at 6 minutes to 1am I marvel at how I'm asleep before 10pm anytime I go on safari). And it's got luxury in ways you simply can't imagine - and we here in East Africa have nailed it. The sheer numbers of animals in our wildlife / national parks alone make it the best wildlife experience you'll ever get to experience!

And how did I get here?
After an unsuccessful attempt to convince people to choose Southern Africa and primarily South Africa as a travel destination over the cheap riches (quite a metaphor, I agree) of Dubai, I was lucky enough to be offered a role at a tour operator's Arusha office trying to convince people to go on Tanzanian Safaris. This time I didn't fail (probably not a view shared by my ex-bosses - sigh) and, more importantly, I loved it. I loved the nuances involved with putting together a safari, choosing the different lodges with regard to what time of year it'll be or how the accommodation choices may differ based on personality types. And moreover, I found I wasn't half bad at it! And so I stayed at it for the next 3 years, all until an urge to move back home was stronger than it's ever previously been. And thus began the chapter of Exotic Wilderness - a chapter I hope and pray lasts longer than previous chapters, and one that I hope and pray is greatly successful - and I hope all two of you that are reading this will hope and pray for the same!
